Fur Care
Guide - Always hang your fur on a broad-shouldered hanger, never on a
wire hanger. Give your fur plenty of room in the closet to assure
proper circulation and to avoid crushing the guard hairs.
- Never hang your fur in a plastic bag or rubber-lined bag.
Plastic prevents air from circulating and can dry out the leather.
When traveling, store your fur in a cloth garment bag provided by
your furrier. Permanent storage in a garment bag is not
reccommended because it will crush the guard hairs.
- If your fur gets wet, shake it out and hang it to air dry in a
well-ventilated room. Do not apply heat of any kind to your fur
this will cause the fur and leather to dry out. DO NOT
place your fur in the dryer, by a heater, or use a blow
dryer. Furs were designed to hold up in most climate
conditions and a little moisture won't hurt them. However, if
your fur garment becomes drenched, take it to Burtrum Furs
immediately so that we can begin the cleaning
process.
- Please avoid spraying perfume and hairspray onto your fur, the
alcohol will dry the pelts. Wearing a silk
scarf around the neck will prevent damage which may be caused
by cosmetics. Ladies please avoid using the shoulder
straps on your handbags as they will cause severe wear.
- Undo hooks and buttons when traveling in the car to prevent fur
rips. Some car upholestry can pull guard hairs from your fur
so cover your seat with a smooth fabric or seat cover.
- Your fur should be stored, cleaned, and inspected every
summer. All of the service work performed on your coat should
be done by a reliable furrier, such as Burtrum Furs, to insure
proper care.
